Jezreel 2Located midway between Megiddo and Bet Shean in the Jezreel Valley, Jezreel comprises a biblical-era tel, a newly-identified lower site, and a perennial spring that ensured near-continuous occupation from prehistory to the modern era. In 2012, the Jezreel Expedition team directed by Norma Franklin and Jennie Ebeling commissioned a LiDAR (light detection and ranging) aerial laser scan of greater Jezreel – the first archaeological project in Israel to utilize this technology – and conducted a preliminary survey that identified more than 350 archaeological features on the landscape. Excavations conducted between 2013 and 2018 brought to light an Early Bronze Age settlement; Middle Bronze Age necropolis; biblical-era winery installation; Roman and medieval roads; and much more.
